Abstract: This invention aims to enhance the performance of a solar water heater by incorporating a packed bed absorber plate within the solar collector. Conventional solar water heaters suffer from limited heat transfer efficiency and significant thermal losses, which reduce overall system performance. To address these challenges, a packed bed consisting of high thermal conductivity materials and/or phase change materials (PCM) is integrated with the absorber plate. This arrangement increases the effective surface area for heat transfer and improves thermal energy storage capacity. During operation, solar radiation is absorbed by the collector and transferred to the packed bed, which efficiently stores and transfers heat to the circulating water. The improved heat exchange results in a higher temperature rise and better system efficiency. The proposed system demonstrates reduced heat loss, enhanced thermal performance, and reliaule operation under varying environmental conditions, making it suitable for domestic and small-scale industrial applications.
