R.; Mr. Abhishek L.; Dr. Mruthunjaya Kenganora; and Dr. Sneha Patil on July 15, 2026, for Ph-Sensitive Phytosome Systems Encapsulating Phytometabolites For Targeted Tumor Drug Delivery.

Abstract: The present invention discloses pH-sensitive phytosome systems for targeted tumor drug delivery comprising a phytosome core formed by stoichiometric complexation of phytometabolites selected from curcumin, quercetin, and epigallocatechin gallate with phospholipids through hydrogen bonding, enveloped by a pH-responsive coating of poly(beta-amino ester) or Eudragit S100. The coating maintains structural integrity at physiological pH 7.4 but undergoes protonation-driven destabilisation at the acidic tumor microenvironment pH of 5.0 to 6.5, enabling selective drug release at tumor sites. The formulations exhibit particle sizes of 130 to 170 nanometres, encapsulation efficiency exceeding 80 percent, and demonstrate three-fold to five-fold enhanced cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines compared to free phytometabolites while exhibiting minimal toxicity towards normal cells. The invention provides a cost-effective platform combining phytosome bioavailability enhancement with pH-triggered tumor-targeted delivery of plant-derived anticancer agents.
