Abstract: Disclosed is a pharmaceutical batch transaction apparatus having an enclosure that defines a storage region, an access port, and a transaction passage extending therebetween. A carrier moves along the transaction passage between a storage-facing position and an access-facing position and supports a medicine package at a transaction position registered with an identifier reader. A first gate lies between the storage region and the carrier, and a second gate lies between the carrier and the access port. A coupling assembly engages the carrier and both gates. Carrier movement toward the access-facing position closes the first gate before permitting the second gate to open, while movement toward the storage-facing position closes the second gate before permitting the first gate to open. The coordinated movement constrains each received or issued medicine package to pass through the registered transaction position.
