MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611108633 A) filed by Sharda University on September 10, 2026, for Phenanthroline-Assisted Tertiary C-H Bond Activation In Copper(ii)-Schiff Base Complexes.
Inventors include Dr. Preeti Jain; Dr. Suman Mallick; and Dr. Misbah Shahid.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for functionalizing a tertiary C-H bond adjacent to an imine group in a Schiff base ligand and to a corresponding copper(II) complex compound. The method comprises providing a Schiff base ligand having a tertiary carbon atom (C8) bearing a tertiary C–H bond adjacent to an imine group, and contacting the Schiff base ligand with a copper(II) salt and 1,10-phenanthroline in an alcohol solvent. The copper(II) complex compound is formed wherein an alkoxy group derived from the alcohol solvent is attached to the carbon atom (C8), thereby converting the tertiary C–H bond into a C-O bond and effecting site- selective functionalization.
