Abstract: The present invention relates to a photothermal substance comprising imide-containing compound. The photothermal substance comprises donor-acceptor units incorporating non-fluorescent imide-containing compounds. The present invention further provides an efficient solar thermal water purification/evaporation device using specially designed donor-acceptor photothermal substances. These substances are optimized for high solar absorption, minimal heat loss, and effective water transport, thereby enhancing solar steam generation (SSG). The imide-containing, non-fluorescent donor-acceptor compounds improve photothermal conversion efficiency, ensuring sustainable and efficient clean water production. The present invention further relates to a method based on the photothermal substance comprising imide-containing compound. The present invention has applications in solar-driven water evaporation/purification and other sustainable energy conversion technologies.
