Abstract: ABSTRACT PIEZOELECTRIC FOOTSTEP ENERGY HARVESTING PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SYSTEM A pedestrian traffic management system (100) comprises a piezoelectric sensor (10) converting mechanical pressure from pedestrian footsteps into an electrical signal, a signal conditioning circuit (20) electrically coupled to the piezoelectric sensor (10) comprising a rectifier (22) converting an alternating current output into a direct current and a smoothing capacitor (24) filtering the direct current, an energy storage unit (30) electrically coupled to the signal conditioning circuit (20) storing electrical energy from the piezoelectric sensor (10), a microcontroller (40) electrically coupled to the signal conditioning circuit (20) and energy storage unit (30) configured to receive the electrical signal, detect footstep events, increment a footstep count, and generate a traffic control signal when the footstep count reaches a predefined threshold, and a traffic signal assembly (50) electrically coupled to the microcontroller (40) changing a traffic light state in response to the traffic control signal.
