Abstract: Title: “PIT LINE ISOLATION OPERATING SYSTEM (PIOS)” 7. ABSTRACT 5 10 15 20 A pit-line isolation operating system (100) for isolating and energizing an overhead traction conductor (170) is disclosed. The system comprises a command control panel (110) having authentication, command-selection and confirmation inputs; a relay control panel (120) having a sequential interlock circuit (122); motorised disconnectors (130, 132); a position-feedback circuit (136); a potential- transformer status circuit (160); an audio-visual warning arrangement (140); and a closed-circuit television system (150). The interlock circuit (122) permits disconnector operation upon satisfaction of predetermined permissive conditions and inhibits conflicting commands. Completion of isolation is established from open- position and voltage absent feedback, whereas completion of energization is established from closed position and voltage-present feedback. The warning arrangement (140) alerts personnel before a change of electrical state, while the television system (150) enables independent visual confirmation. Absent, abnormal or contradictory feedback causes operation inhibition and fault indication, thereby improving safety during inspection and maintenance of the pit line.
