MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611075290 A) filed by Noida Institute Of Engineering And Technology Niet on June 18, 2026, for Placenta-Targeted Aspirin Nanoconjugates For Restoring Angiogenic Balance In Foetal Growth Restriction.
Inventors include Dr. Saumya Das; and Dr. Avijit Mazumder.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a self-assembling aspirin-RGDS tetrapeptide nanoconjugate for placenta-targeted treatment of foetal growth restriction. The conjugate comprises an acetylsalicyloyl moiety covalently linked to the RGDS peptide, forming carrier-free nanostructures of approximately 100 nm that target placental integrins alpha-v-beta-3, alpha-v-beta-5, and alpha-5-beta-1. The nanoconjugate achieves greater than 50-fold placental enrichment while reducing foetal exposure by over 74 percent compared to free aspirin. In murine FGR models, A-RGDS restores angiogenic balance by normalising sFlt-1/PlGF and TXB2/PGI2 ratios, attenuates placental inflammation, improves trophoblast viability and function, and significantly increases foetal weight. The invention includes trimester-specific dosing protocols, biomarker-guided monitoring, maternal-foetal safety thresholds, and a GMP-compatible synthesis process. A-RGDS provides a rational, dose-sparing, placenta-oriented therapeutic strategy for foetal growth restriction with an improved maternal-foetal safety profile.
