MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641119826 A) filed by Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep on October 07, 2026, for Point-Of-Care Renal Function Testing Device With Integrated Capillary Sample Processing And Multi-Stage Cystatin-C Detection.

Inventor includes Dr. D. Abraham Pradeep.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a point-of-care device for assessing renal function through capillary blood analysis, comprising an integrated sample-processing cartridge having a defined fluidic network of at least three sequentially-linked micro-chambers configured for, respectively, plasma/serum separation from a finger- prick capillary sample, reagent-mediated immunoreaction with cystatin-C-specific binding agents, and signal generation at a dedicated detection zone. Unlike single- pass lateral flow formats, the device incorporates a discrete verification chamber positioned downstream of the primary detection zone, wherein a secondary control reaction cross-validates the primary cystatin-C signal against a reference binding curve stored in onboard memory, thereby flagging hemolysis, under-filling, or reagent degradation before a result is reported. Fluid transit between chambers is regulated by a combination of capillary-geometry-defined micro-channels and dissolvable timed-release barriers, eliminating moving mechanical parts such as slidebars or external actuators. An integrated optoelectronic sensor module quantifies signal intensity at both the primary and verification zones, with an embedded microcontroller performing dual-zone signal correction, temperature-compensated calibration referenced against a factory-stored lot-specific calibration curve, and automatic flagging of quality-control failures. The device further includes a reagent cartridge with individually sealed, single-use reagent pods indexed to a specific lot identifier read by the microcontroller at initialization, preventing reagent cross-contamination or reuse. Test results, along with quality-control metadata, are displayed on an integrated user interface and are transmittable via wireless connectivity to external record- keeping systems. By combining a defined multi-chamber fluidic architecture, a dual-zone verification detection scheme, and lot-indexed reagent management within a single compact, mechanically passive cartridge, the invention provides a structurally distinct approach to decentralized cystatin-C-based renal function screening suited to clinics, pharmacies, and remote healthcare settings.
