Abstract: ABSTRACT POWDER METALLURGY PROCESS FOR PRODUCING TITANIUM-SILICON ALLOY A powder metallurgy process for producing a titanium- silicon alloy comprises providing a pre-alloyed Ti-6Al-4V powder (10) and an elemental silicon powder (12); combining the elemental silicon powder (12) with the pre-alloyed Ti-6Al-4V powder (10), wherein the elemental silicon powder (12) is present in an amount of 0.2 to 1.0 wt.% of a resulting powder mixture; subjecting the powder mixture to high-energy ball milling to form a homogeneous powder mixture (14); filling the homogeneous powder mixture (14) into a graphite die (16); vacuum hot-press sintering the homogeneous powder mixture (14) by simultaneously applying heat and uniaxial pressure to densify the homogeneous powder mixture (14) into a sintered compact (20); and furnace cooling the sintered compact (20).
