MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641084975 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on July 10, 2026, for Power Conversion System For Electric Vehicles.

Inventors include Krishnamoorthy, Sreeram; and Panikkar, Preetha Parakkat Kesava.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: A power conversion system (100) and a method (500) for an electric vehicle enabling propulsion and bidirectional grid-interfaced energy exchange are disclosed. The system (100) includes a traction energy storage unit (102), an electric machine (104) having phase windings (118), a reconfigurable power converter (106) including semiconductor switching devices (108) arranged in converter legs (110), a grid interface (112) coupled to an external alternating current electrical grid (114), reconfiguration elements (120), and a control unit (116). The reconfigurable power converter (106) selectively operates in a propulsion mode, a grid-to-vehicle mode, and a vehicle-to-grid mode using a common set of semiconductor switching devices (108) and phase windings (118). During propulsion operation, electrical energy from the traction energy storage unit (102) drives the electric machine (104). During grid-connected operation, the phase windings (118) function as inductive elements for grid current shaping.
