Abstract: The present invention relates to a rack-and-pinion operated patient transfer mechanism configured to facilitate safe, controlled, and ergonomic transfer of patients between hospital beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, examination tables, and other patient-support structures. The mechanism comprises a structural support frame, a movable patient-support platform, guide rails, guide rollers, a. rack member, a pinion gear, and a drive assembly configured to convert rotational motion into linear displacement of the platform. The rack is fixed to the frame while the pinion engages the rack to produce smooth horizontal movement of the patient-support platform. The drive. assembly may be manually operated or motorized depending on application requirements. Additional safety features include platform locking arrangements, patient restraint systems, anti-slip surfaces, travel limit stops, and caster wheel locking mechanisms. The invention minimizes manual lifting, reduces caregiver fatigue and injuries, improves patient comfort, enhances transfer safety, and provides a cost-effective alternative to conventional hydraulic and robotic patient transfer systems.
