MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641126788 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 24, 2026, for Predictive Software Licensing System And Method With Hardware-Assisted Entitlement Enforcement.

Inventors include Gayathri S; P N Bhargav Teja; Harshini J S; and Sunija A. P.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: A predictive software licensing system (100) and method are disclosed. The system (100) includes one or more processors (102), a memory (104), and a telemetry interface configured to obtain feature usage data from a memory-mapped input/output (MMIO) register bank associated with a client computing device (106). The processors (102) determine feature usage metrics including usage velocity, feature usage entropy, feature co-activation, and burst energy, and generate a domain- specific digital twin representative of a licensing state. The system (100) predicts a future licensing tier, determines a pricing parameter based on the predicted licensing tier and an adaptive pricing policy, and generates a micro-license token corresponding to the pricing parameter. The pricing parameter and the micro-license token are written to one or more MMIO registers associated with the client computing device (106) to enable network interface controller firmware to enforce feature entitlement during packet processing without processor intervention. The method further supports reinforcement learning-based adaptive pricing and privacy-preserving federated model updates through a federated licensing server (118). FIG. 1
