Abstract: Abstract TITLE: Preparation of soilless, cement-free rice husk ash-based unburnt bricks. The advancement is directed to utilization of rice husk ash (48-75% by wt) with limestone and medium-sand for preparing unburnt bricks as a green building material. This invention reports the production of Class-1 quality bricks with 48.1-65% RHA, 16.3-24.1% limestone, 18.7-27.8% medium sand and water to RHA ratio of 0.54-0.71, and Class-2 quality bricks with 70-75% RHA, 11.6-13.9% limestone, 13.4-16% medium sand and water to RHA ratio of 0.48-0.50. There is no firing required in the production process, unlike the conventional burnt-clay bricks. There will not be any use of soil for preparing bricks using this technology, which indirectly conserves soil, unlike the conventional fired clay bricks. This invention does not need any application of cement for brick production. The RHA-based unburnt bricks meet all requirements of Class-1 and Class-2 bricks and hold immense potential for use in building construction. The costs of bricks will be comparable with the commercially available fired clay bricks, i.e. INR 14-18 and INR 12-14 for Class-1 and Class-2 bricks.
