MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411091772 A) filed by Rakuten Symphony, Inc. on November 25, 2024, for Primary Node Load-Based Multi-Radio Dual Connectivity (mrdc) Bearer Type Conversion.
Inventors include Ilangovan, Gugan; Sundaravaradhan, Raghul; Korachara Mareppa, Hanumantappa; and Antonyraj, Santhiyaku Jeevakumar.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are the apparatus (204) and method for multi-radio dual connectivity (MRDC) bearer type conversion. The method (700) includes transmitting, by a primary node (202), a plurality of input parameters to a Radio Access Network (RAN) Intelligent Controller (RIC) (210) and optionally includes transmitting, by a secondary node (206), a plurality of input parameters to a Radio Access Network (RAN) Intelligent Controller (RIC). Further, the method (700) includes receiving a bearer conversion threshold percentage from the RIC to the primary node. Further, the method (700) includes converting a plurality of bearers of a plurality of User Equipments (UEs) (208a, 208b…208n) to a plurality of Secondary Cell Group (SCG) bearers when the plurality of UEs (208a, 208b…208n) connected to a cell associated with the plurality of bearers is below the bearer conversion threshold percentage. Furthermore, the method (700) includes converting the plurality of bearers of the plurality of UEs to split bearers when the UEs (208a, 208b…208n) connected to the cell associated with the SCG bearers exceed the bearer conversion threshold percentage.
