Abstract: PROCESS FOR ATMOSPHERIC, ROOM TEMPERATURE DEPOSITION OF SUB-MICRON THICK COATINGS OF NANOPARTICLES OVER LARGE SURFACE The present disclosure relates to a process (200) and an apparatus (100) for atmospheric, room-temperature deposition of sub-micron thick nanoparticle coatings on a substrate. The apparatus (100) comprises a reservoir with a magnetic stirrer (102), an air compressor (104), at least one air flow meter (106), a twin-fluid atomizer (108), a striking surface (110), and optionally an auxiliary air nozzle (112). The process (200) comprises continuously stirring a friction modifier suspension, atomizing the suspension into a spray, directing the spray onto the striking surface (110) to generate a nanoparticle-containing mist by preferential entrainment of nano- sized particles, exposing the substrate positioned at a vertical height (hs) or a lateral distance (ds) from the striking surface for deposition, and drying the deposited coating. The deposition characteristics are controllable by varying deposition duration, predefined distance (hn), substrate position, and compressed air flow rate to deposit single-material or multi-material nanoparticle coatings under atmospheric conditions.
