Abstract: A process for isomerizing a first ethylenically unsaturated alcohol by shifting of a double bond to obtain a second ethylenically unsaturated alcohol comprises contacting a stream of the first ethylenically unsaturated alcohol with at least one heterogeneous isomerization catalyst, characterized in that the stream of first ethylenically unsaturated alcohol which is contacted with the heterogeneous isomerization catalyst comprises less than 25 ppmw of organically bound nitrogen, relative to the weight of the first ethylenically unsaturated alcohol. The process allows for isomerizing ethylenically unsaturated alcohols with high selectivity.
