Abstract: The present invention discloses a process for preparing biodegradable aliphatic polyester, from an aliphatic dihydric alcohol/diol and an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid by condensation. Particularly, the present invention discloses a process which can manufacture thermally stable aliphatic polyesters. The disclosed process efficiently produces an aliphatic polyester and improves the molecular weight and thermal stability of the resulting aliphatic polyester. In the disclosed process, a bio-based chain extender, and a mixture of radical inhibitors or thermal stabilizers are used at the time of polycondensation stage of the process using an alkylated metal compound as a catalyst.
