Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the purification of a crude pyrolysis product, the process comprising the steps of A1) providing a crude pyrolysis product, the crude pyrolysis product comprising hydrocarbons and impurities, the crude pyrolysis product at least partially obtainable by pyrolysis of plastic waste, A2) bringing the crude pyrolysis product into contact with alkali hydroxide at a temperature of from 330 to 400 °C, preferably 340 to 360 °C, in a continuous mode with a residence time of less than 10 min to obtain a treated pyrolysis product and a residue comprising reacted impurities, A3) washing the treated pyrolysis product with a polar washing solvent to obtain a purified pyrolysis product and a polar washing solvent phase, A4) separating the polar washing solvent phase from the purified pyrolysis product.
