MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621048287 A) filed by Dr. Vishwanath Karad Mit World Peace University on April 16, 2026, for Process For Treatment Of Petroleum Industry Wastewater Using Integrated Bio-Adsorption And Biodegradation.
Inventors include Niraj S. Topare; Sunita Raut-Jadhav; Sian W. Fernandes; Prasad S. Tajanpure; Pratik V. Tabhane; Anish Khan; Numan Arshid; and Sagar Kanekar.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: Disclosed is a process (100) comprises preparing a Delonix regia pod shell powder bio-adsorbent (4) from agricultural waste; cultivating a Bacillus subtilis inoculum; combining the inoculum with a petroleum industry wastewater in a feed tank (1) to form a bio-augmented feed stream; packing a column (3) with the bio-adsorbent (4) between glass wool support layers (5); and continuously pumping the bio-augmented feed stream through the packed column (3) by a peristaltic pump (2) at pH 7 and 30° C, collecting a treated effluent in a collection tank (6). Integrated simultaneous bio-adsorption and biodegradation achieves 91% to 96% COD reduction, exceeding bio-adsorption alone by 21 percentage points and biodegradation alone by 26 percentage points. The Bio-adsorbent (4) is regenerable over 5 cycles using dilute acid; exhausted bio-adsorbent is usable as agricultural soil amendment.
