Abstract: Production of benzimidazole-cored benzoxazine derivatives for different industrial applications The present invention deals with the production and characterization of 10 benzimidazole-cored benzoxazines (H-OP-ddm, H-OP-hmd, H-OP-ipd, and H-OP-hqeh) from 4-(lH-benzimidazol-2-yl) phenol (H-OP) and 4-(lH- benzimidazok2’yl)_-2rmethoxyphenoL(V--OP)- with-varied-natureof diamines- _ (ddm, H-hmd, ipd, and hqeh ) and paraformaldehyde through Mannich condensation. The molecular structure, molecular mass, curing behaviour, 15 thermal stability, dielectric behaviour, water contact angle, moisture absorption, and antimicrobial behaviour are studied using appropriate analytical instruments and standard methods, with a view to ascertain their suitability for different industrial applications in the form of adhesives, coatings and matrices. The molecular masses of HOP, VOP) and 20 hydroquinone modified diaminothiazole(hqeh) obtained from HRMS were found to be 211.08, 241.1, and 307.07 respectively, and coincide with their theoretical molecular mass. The curing temperature (Tp) obtained for the benzoxazines derived from H-OP, and V-OP,( viz., H-OP-ddm, H-OP-hmd, H-OP-ipd, and H-OP-hqeh and V-OP-ddm, V-OP-hmd, V-OP-ipd, and V-OP-25 hqeh) in the absence of catalysts are ranged between 209 °C and 246 °C, and in the presence of catalysts are ranged between 195 °C and 238 °C. Among them, H-OP-hqeh sample was found to possesses the lowest curing temperature of 203 °C in the presence of catalyst 195 °C. The values of (Td) obtained are ranged between 344 °C and 401 °C. Similarly, their values of LOI 30 calculated from char yield obtained from thermogravimetric analysis are ranged between 34.84 % and 42.48%. Among them, H-OP-ddm system exhibited the highest LOI value of 42.48 %. All the benzoxazine samples possess the flame-retardant behaviour of V0 rating as per UL94 test. The values of water contact angle obtained are ranged between 100° and 120° 35 Similarly, the values of percentage moisture absorption obtained are ranged between 0.2 % and 0.5 %. The benzoxazines derived from H-OP and V-OP, using different amines possess an antimicrobial activity against E. coli and S. aureus, with an inhibition zone diameter greater than 10 mm.
