Abstract: ABSTRACT PROTECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PHASE-TO-PHASE FAULT OF BRUSHLESS EXCITER The present invention relates to a protection system (100) and method for a brushless exciter during open-circuit (OCC) testing, designed to monitor armature voltage (Va) and field current (If) in real-time. The system calculates the Va/If ratio (armature voltage to field current) and compares it to a user-predefined setpoint. If the ratio falls below the threshold, indicating a phase-to-phase fault, the system activates a protection relay (103a), which trips the field contactor (104) to disconnect the field supply, preventing further damage to the exciter. This automated protection system (100) ensures real-time fault detection, enhancing the reliability and safety of OCC tests. Additionally, a false trip prevention mechanism ensures system stability during start up. It integrates seamlessly with existing Distributed Control Systems (DCS) (101) and Digital Automatic Voltage Regulator (DAVR) system (103), providing a cost-effective and efficient solution for exciter performance validation in power generation systems. {FIGURE 3}
