MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441010947 A) filed by Nokia Technologies Oy on February 16, 2024, for Protocol Data Unit Set Information Identification For End-To-End Encrypted Traffic.

Inventors include Jisha George; Renil Surendran; and Devaki Chandramouli.

The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT PROTOCOL DATA UNIT SET INFORMATION IDENTIFICATION FOR END-TO-END ENCRYPTED TRAFFIC A method is provided that includes accessing an encrypted application flow including encrypted protocol data units (PDUs). For each encrypted PDU of one or more of the encrypted PDUs, the method includes performing Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) processing of the encrypted PDU in which an IPSec packet is constructed to include the encrypted PDU and carry metadata including at least one of a media-type indicator of the encrypted PDU, or PDU set information regarding at least one PDU set to which the encrypted PDU belongs. The method then includes sending the IPSec packet to a network function at which the metadata is accessible from the IPSec packet for PDU set identification, and for mapping the encrypted PDU to a quality of service (QoS) flow for classification and QoS differentiation of the encrypted PDU.
