MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641004523 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Madras Iit Madras on January 16, 2026, for Quantum Molecular Spectroscopy Based On Optical Fiber Bragg Grating Interferometer.
Inventors include Shivananju Bannur Nanjunda; and Sweta Rath.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses an optical sensing device and method for molecular spectroscopy. The device comprises an optical fiber including a fiber Bragg grating and an optical excitation arrangement configured to photoexcite molecules in thermal communication with the fiber Bragg grating. Non-radiative relaxation of the photoexcited molecules generates localized photothermal energy, inducing a change in a Bragg reflection characteristic of the fiber Bragg grating, including a Bragg wavelength shift or a change in spectral shape, broadening, or splitting. The Bragg reflection response provides molecular spectroscopic information without requiring detection of radiative fluorescence emission. The disclosed device and method support photothermal analysis of microvolume samples, including liquid samples having volumes of less than 50 microliters, and enable evaluation of photothermal responses as a function of excitation wavelength, excitation intensity, and molecular concentration.
