Abstract: The present invention provides a cerium oxide nanozyme-coated mesoporous silica nanocomposite loaded with quercetin (CeO2-MSN/Q) and a process for its preparation. The nanocomposite comprises an MCM-41 type mesoporous silica core, a cerium oxide nanozyme coating chemically anchored on the external surface exhibiting superoxide dismutase and catalase mimetic activities through a self-regenerating Ce3+/Ce4+ redox cycle, and quercetin loaded within the mesoporous channels. The nanocomposite exhibits synergistic dual-mechanism antioxidant activity combining catalytic enzymatic ROS scavenging by the cerium oxide coating and chemical ROS scavenging by the loaded quercetin. In Caco-2 intestinal epithelial cells subjected to H2O2-induced oxidative stress, the nanocomposite achieves relative viability recovery exceeding 100 percent at quercetin-equivalent concentrations of 100 micromolar, significantly superior to free quercetin or uncoated MSN/Q.
