Abstract: Abstract Disclosed is a ratchet body measurement tape comprising a tape housing, a measuring tape, a tape reel, a ratchet gear, a locking pawl, a release member, and a retraction control unit. The measuring tape is received within the tape housing and is extendable outwardly from the tape housing. The tape reel is rotatably supported within the tape housing and is operatively coupled to the measuring tape. The ratchet gear is operatively connected to the tape reel and rotates during extension of the measuring tape. The locking pawl engages the ratchet gear to hold the measuring tape at selected incremental extension positions. The release member disengages the locking pawl from the ratchet gear.
