Abstract: The current invention relates to SmartGreen-IoT, an intelligent hybrid edge-cloud system for continuous monitoring and automation of greenhouse environmental conditions based on IoT sensor networks and predictive analytics. The system constantly monitors greenhouse environment parameters such as temperature, humidity, soil moisture, CO2 concentration, and light intensity using IoT distributed sensors. The sensed information is analyzed and validated in an edge computing module and used to control automatically irrigation pumps, ventilation systems, cooling fans, heating systems, and artificial light in real time. The analyzed environmental information is then uploaded to a cloud computing platform for storing securely and analyzing historically and predictively as well as monitoring remotely using a web/mobile dashboard. The invention further suggests an Environmental Health Index (EHI), which incorporates several environmental parameters into one intelligent index for automated decision making and optimization of the greenhouse environment. The hybrid edge-cloud architecture decreases the communication latency, increases the monitoring accuracy and resource efficiency, and consumes minimum water and energy, ensuring optimum growth conditions for crops. The suggested SmartGreen-IoT system represents a scalable, secure, efficient and intelligent solution for precision agriculture, commercial greenhouses, polyhouses, hydroponics, agricultural research, and sustainable farming applications.
