Abstract: A system (100) for real-time food waste monitoring may include an image capture module (102) to capture real-time image data of a food plate and image data of a user associated with food plate, a client computing module (104) in communication with a remote processing platform (106) and including a web browser (104A) receives real-time image data and performs browser-based processing to generate processed food plate waste data indicative of whether food plate contains post-consumption food remnants exceeding a predefined threshold. A triggering module (104C) may initiate capture of image data of user by image capture module (102) only when processed food plate waste data indicates that food remnants exceed predefined threshold. Client computing module (104) via an alert generation module (104D) to generate one or more alerts based on processed food plate waste data, wherein alerts may include real-time image data of food plate and image data of user.
