MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541066078 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Madras Iit Madras on July 10, 2025, for Real Time Shape Programming Device For Soft Magnetic Soft Materials And Robots.
Inventors include Sivakumar M Srinivasan; and Dharmi Chand.
The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.
Abstract: REAL TIME SHAPE PROGRAMMING DEVICE FOR SOFT MAGNETIC SOFT MATERIALS AND ROBOTS The invention provides a multifunctional fabrication and programming system (100) for soft magnetic actuators, integrating three core modules to enable programmable particle alignment and localized curing. A rotatable magnetic field generator (102) comprising permanent magnets (114) on a 360° disk allows dynamic orientation of a uniform magnetic field to align soft magnetic particles in uncured polymer. A motorized sample bed (104) offers rotational and translational positioning, facilitating spatially varied magnetic alignment. A UV/laser light module (108) mounted on a guiding rail employs adjustable optics or masks for region-specific curing or thermal activation, selectively locking magnetic patterns into the matrix. Additionally, a laser-based heating module (112) enables site-specific reprogramming of pre-cured actuators by locally softening the polymer, allowing realignment and fixation of magnetic particles under a new field.
