Abstract: The present invention discloses a vision-based real-time road sign detection and driver safety alert system designed to assist drivers in identifying traffic signs and improving road safety. The system captures continuous video input from a vehicle-mounted camera and processes each frame through a sequential pipeline. A Preprocessing Module prepares the captured frames by resizing, normalizing pixel values, and reducing noise for improved detection accuracy. A Detection Module employs a deep learning object detection model based on the YOLO (You Only Look Once) architecture to detect and localize traffic signs within the video frames by generating bounding boxes and confidence scores. A Classification Module identifies the detected traffic signs into predefined categories such as speed limit signs, stop signs, and warning signs using a trained traffic sign dataset. A GPS Integration Module retrieves real-time geographic location information of the vehicle to associate detected signs with location data. A Safety Alert Module generates visual or optional audio notifications to inform the driver about detected traffic signs and road conditions. The system operates in real time using standard computing hardware and does not require specialized sensors or expensive equipment. The proposed system enhances driver awareness, supports intelligent transportation systems, and contributes to improved road safety.
