MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202647085789 A) filed by Air Products And Chemicals, Inc. on July 13, 2026, for Reducing Energy Consumption In Nitrogen Production Using A Turboexpander.

Abstract: An air separation system using a membrane separation unit to produce a nitrogen-enriched product stream from a feed air stream is described herein. A nitrogen-enriched non-permeate stream is expanded in a turboexpander and the energy recovered during expansion is used to further compress the feed air stream prior to membrane separation. Expanded nitrogen-enriched non-permeate stream is also used to cool the compressed feed air upstream from membrane separation.
