MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521001671 A) filed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on January 08, 2025, for Repair Of Damaged Panel Or Skin Of Aircraft Fuel Tank Using Flush Doubler.

Inventors include Pankaj Sudhakar Bharambe; Anil Bhagwat Patole; and Ishwar Chandra Kushwaha.

The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.

Abstract: During aircraft manufacturing and flights, aircraft structures are likely to get damaged due to various reasons such as bird hit, tool impact etc. in the form of dents, puncture, cracks, tool marks on the external panels, internal components or both. Damages on external panels can be inspected and repaired by conventional method of installing a doubler with fasteners to regain the lost strength. However, in case of metallic fuel tanks, damages on panels are difficult to repair due to inaccessibility for installation of doubler and fasteners from inside. Constraints on usage of blind fasteners in fuel tank make the repairs even more complex. Projections of doublers due to repairs are not allowed to ensure efficient aerodynamic performance. Also, the repair should provide sufficient reinforcement with fuel leak proofing. The present invention ensures installation of flush doubler to repair and strengthen the affected zone without any projection and with leak proofing.
