Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION “ROOM TEMPERATURE CURABLE AND REPAIRABLE ELASTOMERIC INSULATION SYSTEM AND A PROCESS FOR PREPARING THE SAME” Disclosed herein is a novel room temperature curable and repairable elastomeric insulation system and a process for the same. The fast-curing rubber compound formulation based on nitrile rubber have thermal and erosion characteristics desirable for thermal insulation application. It acts as ablative layer with enhanced thermal protection. Internal insulation having storage life of 5 years, minimum. The developed insulation exhibits tensile strength in the range of 18 to 23 MPa, elongation at break in range of 750 to 900%, stress at 300% strain (M300) in the range of 4.3 to 4.9 MPa, density 1170 to 1210 kg/m3, hardness shore A is 65 to 70, thermal conductivity is 0.23 to 0.26 W/m-K, specific heat of 1925 to 1975 J/kg-K, rate of erosion is 0.10 to 0.18 mm/sec at 300W/cm2 heat flux, rubber-to– metal peel strength of 1960 to 7845 N/m and rubber-to-rubber peel strength of 3922 to 5884 N/m.
