Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: Ru(II)-Catalyzed [1,4]-Sigmatropic Rearrangement and Intramolecular Concerted SNAr of Aryl and Heteroarylthio Derivatives using Quinoid Carbene A Ru(II)-catalyzed synthesis of O-alkylated arylnaphthyl thioether derivatives using arylthioacetates/arylalkylthioethers with diazonaphthoquinone via a [1,4]- oxa sigmatropic rearrangement is provided and also in a complementary method, heteroaryl thioacetate/heteroaryl alkylthioethers offer O-heteroaryl alkylnaphthyl thioether derivatives via an interesting concerted intramolecular SNAr-type reaction is provided. Both of these methods proceed by forming Ru-based quinoid carbene and sulfur ylide, respectively. The developed strategy is much more straightforward and efficient, using commercially available starting materials under cost-friendly Ru(II)-catalyst conditions. Post synthetic modifications of the synthesized compounds led to precursors of sulfur-containing polyaromatic heterocycles, namely benzonaphthothiophenes (which show prototypical organic semiconductor properties), phenoxathiines scaffold (which show pharmaceutical and attractive optical properties), and other value-added compounds like biaryl sulfoxides, sulfones, and S,P-ligands.
