Abstract: Road accidents are a major cause of fatalities and property damage worldwide, often resulting in delayed emergency response and difficulty in determining the exact cause of the crash. The absence of reliable pre-accident and post-accident vehicle data makes investigation and legal analysis challenging. To address this issue, an Automotive Event Data Recorder (EDR), commonly referred to as a vehicle black box system, is developed to continuously monitor, record, and report critical vehicle parameters. The proposed system is designed using the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B as the central controller. It integrates multiple modules including a GPS tracking unit based on the Global Positioning System, an MQ-3 alcohol sensor for driver monitoring, a gas sensor for safety detection, and an SD card for secure data storage. The system continuously observes vehicle conditions and detects abnormal impacts or sudden jerks indicating a possible accident. Upon detection, it immediately records relevant data such as time, location, and sensor readings, and sends an emergency alert message to predefined contacts to ensure quick medical assistance.
