MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411096120 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 05, 2024, for Seat Belt Latching Assembly For Preventing Counterfeit Seatbelt Latching.

Abstract: A seat belt latching assembly 100 for preventing counterfeit seatbelt latching, enhancing visibility of seat belt components, and warning for seat belt latching, is provided. The assembly 100 comprises a tongue 102, a seat belt buckle 103 with a channel 104, at least one groove 106 on the tongue 102 or the channel 104, and at least one ridge portion 108 on the tongue 102 or the channel 104. The groove 106 is configured to align with the ridge portion 108 when the tongue 102 is inserted into the seat bel buckle 103, thereby preventing counterfeit latching. Further, groove and ridge dimensions vary for different seats and vehicles, ensuring unique combinations. Furthermore, the assembly 100 comprises a proximity sensor 110 in the tongue 102 activates a light 112 on the B-pillar 114 when nearby, improving visibility in low-light conditions.
