MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125350 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for Self-Calibrating Edge Sensor System And Method With Drift Fingerprinting And Active Micro- Excitation.

Inventors include Ramesh Kumar D; and M S Shabreena.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: A self-calibrating edge sensor system and method are disclosed. An edge processor (110) compares the output of a physical sensor (102) with the prediction of a reduced-order physical twin (114) to form an operating residual, and a drift fingerprint generator (112) combines the residual with environmental, ageing and persistence data. On suspected drift, a micro- excitation interface (104) applies a controlled diagnostic stimulus to the sensing element or its measurement chain, adapted to the uncertainty within safe limits, and the measured excitation response is compared with the response predicted by the twin (116). A confidence engine (120) uses both residuals and a cross-sensor consistency check (118) to classify the deviation as sensor drift, process change, transient, fault or twin uncertainty. For confirmed drift, a candidate calibration is applied temporarily while the validated calibration is retained (122), and is committed only if the residuals improve on verification, otherwise rolled back.
