MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641079439 A) filed by Bollavaram Ajitha on June 27, 2026, for Self-Healing Concrete Composition Incorporating Sodium Alginate And Expanded Perlite For Enhanced Crack Repair And Durability.
Inventor includes Bollavaram Ajitha.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a self-healing concrete composition incorporating sodium alginate and expanded perlite powder for enhanced crack repair and durability. The composition comprises cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, water, sodium alginate, expanded perlite powder, and a superplasticizer. Sodium alginate functions as a crack-healing agent by reacting with calcium ions present in cement hydration products to form calcium alginate gel within cracks, while expanded perlite powder functions as an internal curing and moisture-retention material by storing water and gradually releasing moisture into the cementitious matrix. The combined mechanism promotes continued hydration, crack sealing, reduction of permeability, and improved service life of concrete structures. Expanded perlite powder may be incorporated as a partial cement replacement in a range of about 3% to about 12%, with about 6% showing favourable healing efficiency and mechanical performance. The composition is suitable for water-retaining structures, marine structures, bridges, tunnels, pavements, underground structures, and other durable infrastructure applications.
