Abstract: Disclosed is a self-powered autonomous reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) and operating method thereof, ensuring sustainability in various operating environments. The self-powered RIS (100) comprises a patch element (1) on the fourth layer that collects RF signals and transmits them to the rectifier circuit via radio frequency (RF) switch (5). The rectifier of energy harvesting circuit (7) converts these signals into DC voltage. The DC voltage charges the capacitor, which serves as a temporary energy reservoir. The capacitor powers the RF switch (5) and voltage threshold circuit (8). The voltage threshold circuit (8) continuously checks the capacitor’s voltage level. When the voltage exceeds a predefined threshold, it outputs a HIGH signal to the RF switch's control terminal, activating the RIS for controlled reflection. When the voltage drops below the threshold, the RIS deactivates to conserve energy, enabling efficient, autonomous, and adaptive operation in low-energy scenarios. Figure 1 will be reference
