MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611110933 A) filed by Noida Institute Of Engineering And Technology Pharmacy Institute on September 16, 2026, for Self-Powered Closed-Loop Smart Wound Dressing With Infection-Responsive Photothermal And Antibiotic Release.

Inventors include Madhurima; and Pakhi Chakraborty.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a self-powered closed-loop smart wound dressing is disclosed, comprising an electro-responsive antibiotic-loaded nanocarrier hydrogel, an infection-responsive thermal-gating layer, a corona-poled barium-titanate/polyhydroxyalkanoate piezoelectric composite with a photothermal absorber, and a flexible electronic interposer integrating impedance and temperature sensors, an on-device machine-learning classifier, biphasic pulse driver, near-infrared emitter, and wireless communication modules. The dressing autonomously identifies healing, inflammatory, and infected states, selectively activates photothermal sterilisation, provides biphasic electrical stimulation, and triggers electric-field-mediated antibiotic release. The dressing operates without a battery using energy harvested from the piezoelectric layer. The combination of the pH-switchable thermal-gating layer, ferrocene-cyclodextrin electro-cleavable caps, and programmable biphasic output- shaping circuit provides synergistic effects, including reduced thermal dose and antibiotic leakage and enhanced electrical-stimulation duty cycle.
