MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641064071 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education on May 21, 2026, for Self Retracting Sliding Door With Spiral Spring Accumulated Energy Storage And Release.

Inventors include Dr. S. Shasi; and Dr. P. Jayakumar.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: Title: SELF RETRACTING SLIDING DOOR WITH SPIRAL SPRING ACCUMULATED ENERGY STORAGE AND RELEASE 10 15 20 The titled invention discloses a self-retracting sliding door system operating with purely mechanical energy for automatic closing without electrical components or sensors provides reliable, low-maintenance, automatic door closure for office and commercial environments to control dust and temperature. The system includes a sliding door (1) traveling along an overhead sliding channel hub (2), An energy storage chamber (3) houses a spiral spring hub (4) containing a spiral spring. A spring leaf extends from the spring hub through a spring exit window (5), past a guiding roller (6) and through a spring extender guide (7), and is securely fastened by a spring leaf locking clamp (11) to a sliding rail drive roller (8) mounted on the sliding door (1). An idler wheel (9) mounted on the opposite end of the door provides balanced travel. A wall mounting frame housing (10) rigidly supports all components. When the sliding door is manually pulled open, the drive roller pulls the spring leaf, winding the spiral spring tightly within the energy storage chamber to store mechanical energy. When the door is released or left idle, the stored energy unwinds the spring, retracting the spring leaf, which pulls the drive roller and automatically closes the sliding door.
