MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641045536 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on April 09, 2026, for Sensor- Integrated compression Sock For Continuous detection And Monitoring Of Peripheral Edema.

Inventors include K. Divyadarshini; Dr. Dhanusia. S; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: Abstract: The present invention relates to a smart compression garment designed for continuous detection and monitoring of peripheral edema in the lower limb. The system integrates flexible stretch sensors, pressure sensors, and bio-impedance electrodes within a graduated compression sock to quantify circumferential expansion, interface pressure changes, and extracellular fluid accumulation in real time. Sensor data are processed by a compact detachable electronic module containinu a microcontroller and wireless communication unit. i The system detects early edema development, maps localized swelling zones, and tracks progression or reduction of edema during daily activities. The invention enables objective, continuous, and non-invasive edema assessment while simultaneously delivering therapeutic compression. Data can be transmitted wirelessly to a mobile application for real-time feedback, trend analysis, and optional clinician monitoring. The wearable, washable, and low-profile design allows long-term daily use in patients with heart failure, venous insufficiency, lymphedema, post-operative swelling, and pregnancy- related edema.
