Abstract: ABSTRACT SHOCK-ABSORBING KNEE SPACER WITH EMBEDDED ELASTOMERIC LAYER The present invention discloses a knee spacer (100) for an orthopedic knee joint prosthesis, comprising an upper articulating portion (101) and a lower support portion (102) formed from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The upper articulating portion (101) and the lower support portion (102) are arranged as separate sections defining an internal interface region, within which an elastomeric layer (103) is disposed. The elastomeric layer (103) is enclosed between the UHMWPE sections and is configured to undergo elastic deformation under compressive load transmitted between the upper articulating portion (101) and the lower support portion (102). The deformation of the elastomeric layer (103) modifies load transmission through the knee spacer (100) during joint articulation. The knee spacer (100) is configured for placement between a femoral component and a tibial component to facilitate load-bearing and articulation within the prosthetic knee joint.
