MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541042012 A) filed by Ecole Centrale School Of Engineering, Mahindra University on April 30, 2025, for Single Source Precursor Enabled Metal Sulphide Based Sensors For Gas Or Volatile Organic Compounds Detection.

Inventors include Miss. Sayali Shrishail Harke; and Dr. Chitra Gurnani.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: M2S3 (M=Sb or Bi) BASED ROOM TEMPERATURE GAS AND VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUND SENSORS The present invention relates to a gas and volatile organic compound (VOC) sensor, a method for fabricating such a sensor, and a method for detecting gases and VOCs using the same. More particularly, the invention discloses a nanostructured sensor platform based on metal chalcogenide semiconductors of M2S3 (M = Sb or Bi). The invention specifically utilizes a solution-processable, single-source precursor (SSP) approach to synthesize high surface area M2S3 nanostructures compatible with both rigid and flexible substrates. The resulting chemo-resistive sensors demonstrate exceptional performance at ambient room temperatures (25–40?°C), including high sensitivity, rapid response and recovery, and excellent selectivity toward hazardous gases and VOCs at ppm and sub-ppm concentrations. The compatibility of the SSP-based fabrication strategy with flexible substrates facilitates the development of mechanically compliant, lightweight, and adaptable sensing systems suitable for integration into wearable and portable electronic platforms.
