MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641087891 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on July 17, 2026, for Smart Chair With Posture-Aware Breathing-Zone Air Purification.

Inventor includes Vishnu Priya Arivanantham.

The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT SMART CHAIR WITH POSTURE-AWARE BREATHING-ZONE AIR PURIFICATION A smart chair apparatus comprises a seating structure (100) having a seat base (110) and backrest (120), a posture sensing assembly (200) integrated within the seating structure (100) to acquire load distribution patterns and movement variations of a seated user, a respiration monitoring mechanism (300) integrated within the backrest (120) to detect thoracic movement variations and micro- pressure fluctuations associated with breathing, an air purification module (400) within the seat base (110) to draw ambient air through a multi-stage filtration assembly (410), an airflow delivery duct (500) extending from the air purification module (400) through the backrest (120) toward a headrest region (130), outlet vents (510) near the headrest region (130) directing purified air toward a breathing zone, and a processing unit (600) coupled to the posture sensing assembly (200), respiration monitoring mechanism (300), and air purification module (400) regulating airflow based on posture and respiration.
