Abstract: ABSTRACT The rapid rise in the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) presents significant challenges for electrical distribution systems, particularly distribution transformers. Simultaneous charging of multiple EVs during peak demand can lead to transformer overloading and thermal stress, thereby reducing transformer lifespan and reliability. This project proposes an advanced smart EV charging system that integrates transformer overload protection with solar energy utilization to enable efficient and sustainable charging. The proposed system is based on an (Arduino UNO/ESP32) microcontroller platform, which continuously monitors key transformer parameters such as voltage, current, and temperature using appropriate sensors. Based on real-time load conditions, the controller dynamically regulates the EV charging rate to prevent transformer overloading. A relay-based switching mechanism intelligently controls the charging process and enables seamless selection between transformer supply and solar energy, prioritizing renewable energy usage. The system incorporates photovoltaic panels integrated with a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) charge controller to ensure optimal utilization of solar energy. The EV battery acts as the primary load, and its charging process is adaptively controlled according to system conditions. Additionally, an IoT-based monitoring system allows users to remotely access real-time data through a cloud platform, enabling efficient supervision and control. The proposed smart EV charging system enhances transformer reliability, reduces dependence on grid power, improves energy efficiency, and promotes the development of sustainable EV charging infrastructure. Consequently, it contributes to long-term energy security and supports the advancement of smart grid technologies.
