Abstract: SMART GARBAGE SEGREGATION SYSTEM WITH DUAL-MODE AI ROBOTIC ARM AND BULK SKIMMING MECHANISM The present invention discloses a smart garbage segregation system featuring timed feeding, mechanical bag opening, vibratory stratification, AI-powered robotic picking, multi-sensor-based classification with advanced logic for distinguishing challenging waste types, and bin level monitoring. A mild steel bucket conveyor delivers waste containers at predetermined intervals into a conical hopper with rotating cutter and scraper that tears bags open. A vibratory feeder with perforated base drains liquid and stratifies material, causing dry items to float. A single AI robotic arm with dual end effector operates in two modes: Phase 1 uses rake fingers and suction cups for bulk picking of multiple plastic bags and wrappers simultaneously from the vibratory feeder; Phase 2 uses a mechanical gripper for individual picking of rigid dry objects from a main conveyor. All picked items deposit into a first collection bin. Remaining waste falls onto a sensor detection plate equipped with inductive, moisture, weight, impact, infrared reflectance, and compression sensors. Multi-sensor fusion logic distinguishes between wet organic waste, liquid containers, dry recyclables, and other waste including diapers based on parameters including compressibility. Classified items are directed into four bins labelled METAL, WET, DRY, and OTHER. Each bin includes level sensors that transmit fill status to municipal authorities via a communication module for coordinated collection. The system reduces manual intervention, enhances recycling efficiency, enables accurate handling of problematic waste types, and supports smart municipal waste management.
