MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611057965 A) filed by Panipat Institute Of Engineering And Technology Piet on May 07, 2026, for Smart Harvest Timing Prediction System Using Crop Image Colour, Size, And Maturity Analytics.

Inventor includes Prof. Dr. Poonam Panwar.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a computer-implemented intelligent harvest timing prediction system for precision agriculture. An image acquisition unit captures high-resolution crop images at different growth stages using a digital camera, smartphone, or field imaging sensor and transmits the images to a processing unit via wired or wireless networks. The processing unit performs preprocessing including noise removal, enhancement, background removal, and segmentation to isolate a crop/fruit region. A feature extraction module computes maturity-relevant colour parameters using RGB/HSV/LAB transformations and estimates size measurements such as area, diameter, or shape features from the segmented region. A decision-making module evaluates extracted features using predefined maturity thresholds and/or a machine learning model trained on historical maturity data to determine maturity stage and predict an optimal harvest window. A decision-support interface provides harvest recommendations and alerts indicating under-mature, ready-to-harvest, or over-mature status through a mobile application, web dashboard, or farm management system. Historical data storage enables continuous accuracy improvement and scalable multi-field deployment. (Accompanied Figure No. 1)
