Abstract: ABSTRACT Road accidents caused by potholes and speed humps remain a major concern, particul!;lrly dJring adverse weather conditions and low-visibility situations such as fqg, rain, and nigh~ driving. This project presents an intelligent and cost-effective solution for improving rQad safety through the real-time detection and monitoring of road surface irregularities. The proposed system utilizes a camera, GPS module, Raspberry Pi 4, and the YOLOvll deep learning model to identify potholes and humps while vehicles are in motion. Edge comp1.1ting devices installed in public transport vehicles continuously caP.ture road condition data and location information, process the data locally, and transmit the results to a cloud platform for storage and analysis, The detected hazards, along with their locations and severity levels, are . integrated into a custom-developed smart navigation application that provides timely alerts ancl warning notifications to drivers before they encounter potential road dangers. By combining Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (loT), edge computing, and cloud technologies, the proposed system enhances driver awareness, supports proactive road maintenance, reduces the likelihood of accidents, and contributes to the development of safer and smarter transpOiiation infrastructure. Keywords: Road Safety, Pothole Detection, YOLOvll, Internet ofThings (loT), Edge Computing, Smart Navigation, Real-Time Driver Alerts, Intelligent Transportation Systems
