MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611110325 A) filed by Chandigarh University on September 14, 2026, for Smart Retrofit Solar Junction Box With Arc-Fault Detection, Hotspot Monitoring And Adaptive String Reconfiguration.

Inventor includes Mamta.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: A smart retrofit solar junction box is interposed between monitored photovoltaic paths and an inverter or combiner. An electrical and thermal sensing subsystem measures voltage, current, high-frequency arc-signature information and path-associated temperature. An embedded controller detects sustained direct-current arc signatures and thermal anomalies, correlates the measurements with photovoltaic topology to localize an affected path, and actuates a direct-current-rated switching network. The network selectively isolates the affected path while retaining an unaffected path in service. For a safety-qualified thermal anomaly, controlled bypass or topology reconfiguration routes around an abnormal segment. Reconfiguration is inhibited during a confirmed arc fault. Following isolation, the controller enforces cooldown, verifies stable electrical conditions, absence of an arc signature and acceptable temperature, and performs partial energization followed by full reconnection. A fail-safe state responds to controller, sensor and switching faults, while non-volatile memory and an alert interface retain and report event information.
